除了本年第二次的 Windows 10 大更新，微軟亦已開始著手籌備來年 Windows 10 首次大更新，並進行不同測試。既有功能上的加減、改變，也有程式的名稱變更。有開發者發現，明年內置於 Windows 10 的防毒軟件可能將更名為 Microsoft Defender。
開發者 Tero Alhonen 發現，於最新的版本 18941 Windows 10 測試版當中，Windows Defender Antivirus 及 Windows Defender Exploit Guard 分別更名為 Microsoft Defender Antivirus 及 Microsoft Defender Exploit Guard，而功能上則暫時未見有變更。
為何微軟要著意為 Windows Defender 更名呢？原來這是因為微軟不但在 Windows 推出防毒軟件，亦已於非 Windows 平台如 macOS 推出防毒軟件，以保持品牌的統一性。
