雖然 PS5 主機向後兼容 PS4 遊戲，但是遊戲廠商始乎希望你體驗 PS5 專用遊戲的畫質體驗，因此，如果你買了某些 PS4 遊戲的話，你也許無需要再買多一次 PS5 版本了。

據遊戲爆料大仙 PSErebus（IronManPS5）在 Twitter 爆料指，你可以免費從指定 PS4 遊戲升級到 PS5 版本，這代表著購買遊戲一次，就可以在 PS5/PS4 兩個新舊平台運行。

隨後市場亦傳出可以免費升級 PS5 版本的 PS4 遊戲的清單

PSErebus 亦指出在 9 月推出的 PS4 版《Marvel’s Avengers Alliance》會免費讓用戶升級 PS5 版本，屆時遊戲官方會提供 PS5 版本的兌換碼，在指定日子內在 PS Store 兌換。這個兌換模式也許會在更多 PS4 遊戲使用，令用戶升級 PS5 主機之後轉玩 PS5 版本。
