蘋果在 2017 年 9 月發佈 iPhone 8/8 Plus/X，同期展示了 AirPower 無線充電板，當時蘋果在官網說明 AirPower 這塊無線充電板在 2018 年某個時候推出市場，並支援 Qi 制式。當時蘋果全球市場副總裁 Phil Schiller 指蘋果希望 AirPower 可鼓勵其他配件商再開發出更先進的解決方案，蘋果會與 Qi 標準團隊合作，將 Qi 充電的優點融入到產品之中，為裝置提供最好的無線充電功能。

不過，時間去到 2018 年 4 月，市場開始關注 AirPower 究竟在哪個時候推出，當時有傳聞指 AirPower 充電的時候會產生過熱問題，令推出一拖再拖。去到 2018 年 9 月 iPhone XS 發佈，AirPower 從蘋果官網消失無蹤。

AirPower 發佈的時候，具備可以為 iPhone、Apple Watch 和 AirPods 同時無線充電的優勢，而且可在 iPhone 顯示其他充電裝置的電量，然而 AirPower 發佈至今仍然未發售，不少「山寨 AirPower」無線充電板已經推出。

也許不少傳聞一而再再而三預測 AirPower 最終會推出，到了最後，也不能掩蓋 AirPower 在 2018 年未能推出的事實。
